Hi Karen,

I'm looking forward to the continuation of the series... I have in my pattern stash a quite a few patterns for Islandic sweaters - they are all 2 pages size A5 (i,e. 14.8cm x 21cm (5,8in x 8,2in) for a whole sweater. I'll dig them out tonight to have closer look - it's some time since I knitted on of those sweaters. I'll also send you a few examples of the "reductionist" pattern used by Junghans.

Regards

I had the same problem with a hat for my niece. When I was casting on I simply asked around about why was the "average" size 1 & 1/2 year old head. Her head is very large. The hat wasn't long enough but she loved it so much that I didn't bother to lengthen it.

I love the 'pattern' that turned out on the hat...it's something so unique and has its own story for a first time knitter. I say 'Great job!' :)

People will learn when they are ready to do so. Thor has made an excellent start and I'm sure it won't be the last garment he makes. A hat was an ambitious start too!

I 'taught' my two daughters to knit about two years ago, but they didn't take to it. Maybe the projects they chose were too long in completion and they moved on to other things. They now tell me that knitting is a 'mother' thing, even though I am the only mother they know that knits regularly. Ah well. They know the basics if they ever want to take it up again. Congrats on getting Thor to knit. My son actually picked up crochet a number of years ago and made his father a scarf. It's fun when you can pass along your obsession and, also, make useful presents.
