Hello e-world of fiber enthusiasts!

I hope to exchange ideas for various fiber arts with other fiber enthusiasts.  I especially look forward to seeing pictures of others’ creations and will share some of mine.

I first learned to knit when I was about 5 years old.  While it was my Norwegian mother who first started me knitting, it was her mother who instilled a love of traditional Scandinavian handarbeider (literally, hand works).  In addition to knitting, under my grandmother’s patient tuteledge I also learned to crochet and mastered an array of needlework (including hardanger and various prydsøm).

I never learned to read a knit or crochet pattern – in either Norwegian or English – until as an adult I taught myself.  This was about the same time I started taking classes in spinning, weaving and dying.  To this day I have difficulty following pattern instructions, viewing them more as useful suggestions instead of “must do’s.”
