Tie Dye Birthday Party

At one of my daughter’s birthday parties many years ago, I wanted to do something different than sending the children home with little bags of sugary, teeth-rotting treats.  So instead of something like “Pin the Tail on the Donkey,” the main activity at her party was tie-dying!  I set up a long table outside and down the middle I placed many squeeze jars (like a ketchup squeeze container), each containing a different color.  Then I gave each of the party attendees a new, freshly washed and dried, white t-shirt, plastic bags and string.  Then I demonstrated how to tie dye.  They had grand fun dying their t-shirts, everyone took home something useable, and all the mess (at least that which wasn’t on the children), was outside and easily cleaned up!
