Dollfus-Mieg & Cie

I can’t knit today (I strained my left hand knitting too much yesterday afternoon and I can barely make a fist – and yes I will stop typing after this blog) so today’s a reading day.  And lo and behold, what a find!  Stuck between a bunch of old Norwegian ladies magazines filled with articles on food and knitting I found an old (old) German booklet: “Spezialartikel zum Sticken, Nähen, Stricken, Häkeln und überhaupt zu allen weiblichen Handarbeiten bestimmt und aus folgendem Material hergestellt:  Baumwolle, Leinen und Seide.”

This booklet was from Dollfus-Mieg & Cie and was published in France.  So who’s or what’s Dollfus-Mieg & Cie?  Most of us know it as DMC!  Underneath the firm’s name is “Société anonyme” under which reads “Mulhouse-Belfort-Paris”  under which reads “erzeugt und verkauft unter der Marke.”  At the top of each subsequent page reads “Merk Stich – III. Serie.”

The patterns are quite lovely – ranging from styles that look rather eastern (i.e., Eastern European, Baltic, etc.) to more traditional European (i.e., French & German).  The colors used are great.

I have all of the pages save for the cover page.  The glue binding the pages seems to have long since dissolved.

I scanned it in to share with anyone interested.  Here it is!

Yes please, I would love a copy too. I would love to try some of the stitches while I’m recovering from knee surgery. Hope your hand recovers soon. Thanks Karen.
